Constitution from streets? says CPN-M

RAMECHHAP: CPN-Maoist Vice-chairman CP Gajurel today said his party would promulgate a statute from the street itself. “As the constitution-making body has become the fiefdom of status-quoists, I don’t see any chance of a progressive statute being drafted by the Constituent Assembly,” he said at a programme in Ramechhap district headquarters Manthali, adding, “So we’re preparing to declare a progressive statute from the street itself.”

Making it clear that his party wouldn’t accept a statute delivered by the ‘regressive CA’, he said, “In a year there will be two statutes and two governments as we’ll run a government from our side as we did during the insurgency period. In order to implement our statute, make our rule prevail and annul the statute promulgated by the CA, we might have to resort to armed revolt once again,” he said, adding that his party would also launch a nationwide campaign to expose the dirty power game of international agents.

Riot immigrants: we were injured in raid

Several migrants are claiming to have been injured and three of them hospitalised following police intervention during a riot at a detention centre on Tuesday, according to refugee agencies. The claims contradict a statement by the Home Affairs Ministry which said no one was injured and come on the back of several calls for an inquiry into the police conduct. Speaking on TVM’s Dissett last night, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia said an investigation would be carried out to “put people’s minds at rest”.
